When selecting a session for your child, keep a couple things in mind:
2 week sessions tend to have a wider variety of activities than 1 week sessions.
Campers tend to have multiple opportunities to select a specific activity in 2 week sessions.
One week sessions tend to have a younger median age & 2 week sessions an older median age. There will be campers of all ages in all sessions, however.
Some activities are only offered in a specific session.
Some examples:
Sailing instruction is offered only in 2 week sessions. One week campers may have an opportunity to "try out" sailing.
Out of camp day trips (bike/hike/van) occur in two week sessions.
If you are concerned about whether a specific activity will be available during the session you select, please contact us.
Don't hesitate to contact us to speak with us about what session would be appropriate for your child.

Participants for Teen Leadership program must apply as opposed to simply registering; the Teen Leadership program is limited to 6 participants. The program is a kind of "junior counselor" in training where leadership participants will collaborate with staff, individually and as a leadership group, organize activities, special events and work with younger campers. Leadership participants are considered campers, not staff, and as such will be paying a reduced camp fee. Leadership participants will assist with the local historical museum's day camp and will plan, organize and participate in a 3-4 night trip (Manitou Island, Manistee River Canoeing, or something similar) for just the leadership participant group.
Participation Requirements:
(1) Applicants must be 15 -16 years of age.
(2) There is an application/selection process (as opposed to a simple registration process) for anyone interested.
(3) Applicants should also participate in some form of training prior to attending the leadership program at Camp Lookout--as a way to better prepare for real-world leadership responsibilities. This training could include, but is not limited to taking a certification course in lifeguarding, cpr/first aid, volunteering for a child based community program or working for a summer day camp. We're looking for Leadership Program participants to take initiative to better prepare themselves for leadership opportunities and whichever training you feel is appropriate for you will be acceptable.
Applications should include:
(a) an application essay which outlines your interests, skills and experiences and what you hope to gain from participating in the program.
(b) a letter of recommendation for your participation in the program from a teacher. Teachers should send this recommendation directly to the camp office. Recommendations may be submitted by email to camp_info@crystalairecamp.com or by mail to Camp Lookout, P.O. Box 1129, Frankfort, MI 49635.
(c) a paragraph explaining the pre-camp leadership training in which you will participate prior to attending the Leadership Program.
Please phone or email the camp office for more information.
