Employment at Camp Lookout for the summer 2011 season is from Friday, June 8th-Saturday, August 11th. The week from June 8-15 is a staff training week where staff bond as a group, learn about living and working in the Camp Lookout environment and gain skills for working effectively with campers. In addition, prior to staff training week, we offer lifeguard certification and CPR and First Aid certification courses.
Generally, counselors work 10 weeks and Junior Counselors, 5 weeks. Although we prefer staff to make a full summer commitment, we are able to hire some folks to work for a portion of the summer season.
Counselors are usually 19 years old and have finished a year of college or relevant work experience. Junior Counselor applicants are 17 or 18 years old. Median age for counselors in '09 was 21 years old.
The hours are long, the pay is modest, there is little time off, the responsibility for other people's children can weigh heavily on you. But, the Human Rewards are GREAT!
